RTC – Runway traffic controller

This youngster was standing next to the runway with the rest of the giraffes between the trees.
Animals on a runway are fairly dangerous and sometimes the pilot have to sweep the runway by flying fairly low over the runway to clear it from animals.

Look how nicely he is standing to attention!! Nice image LeGrange. I would be very worried if I had to land a aircraft on that landing strip! But I believe they have problems with animals on runways at Hoedspruit and Louis Trichardt Air Force Bases.

Nice picture and great story – very well exposed!

  3. Faan commented:

Well taken shot LeGrange – reminded me of a Rhodesian helicopter pilot who tried to land on a hippo’s back
and managed to sink the aircraft.

Nice image LeGrange. Faan i think they must change the red rotating beacon on top of the aircraft to blue so he will think it’s the police and not an ambulance. I also had a narrow escape ears back in Mossel Bay when i was doing a night landing.
