This image was taken with a Nikon D60 and Sigma 105mm macro lens.
1/60; f10
ISO 100
On board flash used.
PP done with P/shop CS3.
Sharpening: Flatten image.
Resize to 1.666 times the size of output image.
Sharpen (Not USM or Smart sharpen)
Duplicate layer
Apply sharpen to top layer. (It is going to look way oversharpened)
Resize to final output size.
Apply smart sharpen (gaussian blurr, o.2px, 80%)
Adjust opacity.
Fine adjustment to saturation and levels.
This is a variation on the method used by Marc Adamus.
One can play around with various settings eg fading the sharpen tool etc. Each image is going to require different settings. Will allso depend on the lens used etc.

Woweee…this is so clear..Well done…..also gonna try your method of sharpening.
When working my photos I am always concerned of the background …the lighter streaks and stripes with the black blotches..
