Where shutterbugs unite to share their wisdom, skills and resources

On a hot day (34 deg and increasing) this critter was found walking accross the cool tiles of the patio. As I approached it he(she?) stopped, looked at me, smiled (you can see it smiling – yes?) and said: “is that a CANDID camera?”. I shot about 40 pics when he just ambled off again as if thoroughly bored!
Does anyone know what kind of bug this is? It measures about 12 mm nose to tail.
Suspecting it might be a kind of “stink bug”, I carefully picked it up on a sheet of paper and put it in the bushes at the bottom of the garden.
no idea but a good shot of “it”
HA-ha @ the smile! I think it is indeed a kind of a stink bug – the more common and ‘stinker’ one is of a green colour. Seems like you haven’t disturbed it enough for an odour test. It is agood shot but note that even with good light and ample opportunity for using a small aperture, the very back of the bug is still burry. It is also a bit centred for me and could do with some sharpening maybe – cropped and sharpened below by means od experiment.
Yes the stinker is definitely smiling at you Otto. I think it is because he saw a stork in your garden:-)
