Where shutterbugs unite to share their wisdom, skills and resources
Ola
I was asked to shoot an adventure riding event in the Tankwa Karoo by a good friend and wanted to get some opinions on a few of the shots. Was my first time shooting full manual and there is no ways I am ever going back!
All were shot on a 350D with a 70-200mm 1:4
Ooh just noticed I posted the wrong version of the first pic, will post it when I get home
so far looking good that part of the world does not have to much colour too,top one would have being better i think if we had some light on the face.
Agreed, I have reworked a copy of the image with more exposure on the face thoguh the helmet and goggles them selves are a really dark matte black which doesn’t help to much.
will post it when I get a few minutes of peace at home
Hi Jan, think have a great record of the event here. photos are good in showing some interesting angles and perspective on the environment. I like the fact that they are not simply pics of riders, but mostly well composed shots with artistic flair. Mike is right on the light on the face – not always possible but one should look for a position where the biker rides sort of into the sun (like the second and third pics) and you can shoot with the sun to get some exposure in the face area.
I got to thinking while I was doing some post processing and two ideas came to mind, one I want a light board or reflector to bounce more light at targets… thoguh in this case I would need an assistant or remote control.
the second with regards to getting good composure while shooting fast (really fast) moving subjects on Ai servo mode I’d like to have programmable hot switches on the left hand side of the camera body so that i can change the focus point in a split second from one side to the other.
One of the tricks I learn with this shoot was to shoot to the right by 1 or more stop in order to try grab as much of the detail as I can without blowing out highlights
Shew been so crazy busy with work I haven’t had a chance to post the updated ones.
the rest of the album (480 pics) is up here for any one thats interested

Looking like I may have my first published photos from these
I think your pics are great!
Full of action and a person gets a real feel for the surrounding area.
Agree with Pikkie about your artistic flair.
Thanks you =]
