Welcome to the site, Kobus! I can see what you had in mind and it was a great idea, very well timed also, but unfortunately the camera was all confused and totally under-exposed the scene, making it waaaayyy too dark. Homework time: read your camera manual about spot-metering (metering the light at a specific spot rather than a general reading) and how then to lock the exposure while you re-arrange the shot – this is a very important skill for every tog to master asap. Unless you force it, the camera works with ‘averages’ measuring the ‘average’ light. The scene contains large highlights and the camera simply expose less not to over-expose these. For many other images the exposure like this would be preferable – I for one often advocates that you should rather expose the highlights correctly…in this case however the darker bird is the main subject and needs to be exposed correctly – luckily there is always post-processing to rectify this kind of camera mistake – see what it would look like if it was correctly exposed here: http://camerazzi.net/wp-content/2011/06/Lunchtime-2-ed.jpg

Thanx for the comment.I will work on that. There are so many things to think about before you take a shot. The trick is to set up the camera before the time for the right condittions, not always thinking of them all. Will post some more soon.I’ve been looking around but cant find where to register and upload myself. Please guide me

Know your camera – practice untill you can change settings in the dark. I think you have a great capture here with the fish in the bird’s beak. Great action shot. Just needs a little fill-in light in the dark areas.
    Very welcome to the site!!

Welcome Kobus. Great action just a pity about the darkness.

You captured the moment and the water well. Pikkie’s pp shows what it should look like, but we all need practice – specially with spot metering and to lock the exposure.
