About Us
Who we are
The Camerazzi Community is an uncomplicated, unintimidating, unpretentious, open, online photographic community; our website a beginner and advanced friendly place where we learn, teach and play the game of digital photography – a place where you dare to be yourself and couldn’t care less if the other guy knows twice or half as much as you do about digital photography.
We are “The Family”; a camerazzi family of shutterbugs – people with round eyes who see the world as a series of framed rectangles as we mostly look at it through the viewfinder of some or other camera. It’s probably a genetic disposition for which no known cure exists.
We love pictures, we love to take pictures and we love to brag with our pictures and we love to learn from our own and everybody else’s pictures. None of us is young enough to know everything about photography and we all learn from each other. Even the wizards around here subscribe to the notion that teaching is the best way of learning and we acknowledge the fact that we learn as much from our learners as from our masters.
What we do
We post photos, articles and photo-articles and comment on the posts – the idea is not that you only post your best work, but anything you want to ask, say, show or get answers or opinions about. This is one of the very few sites in the world to get sympathetic and sensible feedback on even even worst pics, as that is the way to learn.
We do not rate or classify photographers, we only comment on, critique and address photos and photographic issues, irrespective of your social or official standing. If you have a camera and take photos, whether a beginner, hobbyist, serious amateur or a professional, you are most welcome; if you have won many awards and star ratings you are also welcome, but if you have developed a chip on the shoulder due to being a ‘master of the trade’ we’ll excuse you from this company of us mere mortals who simply “have fun with photography.”
We are very lenient with and helpful of newbie photographers and most appreciative of the gurus who freely share their wisdom in showing their work, sharing their tips and teaching us something of their skills and knowledge – however they are as much and even more subjected to critique and we especially welcome questions, remarks and critical comments from beginners and hobbyists on the work of the ‘experts’ – we will definitely not hold it against you!
Who to blame
The Camerazzi concept and website was founded by Pikkie Wolmarans (editor) with the help of Arnold Goodway (webmaster) both from Pretoria, South Africa and was first launched on January 20, 2009. Pikkie is the ‘official’ owner of the site simply because he foots the hosting bill and he runs the place just because he couldn’t find someone else to do it for free yet. But he says: “the Camerazzi website belongs to our members and what to post and what to say is entirely your own choice.” Posts and comments are not edited or moderated as we trust that people who feel they belong here are serious about having fun with photography and are trustworthy to behave like adults in public as the site is accessible to the rest of the world out there! If not, we just kick you out!
